a small spark smoldering

those old tricks never worked

and now, they no longer do

so what might be left

but to straddle the fence

down the middle of all that i knew

but didn’t know

just made up along the way

and i buried her

not within, but underneath

hoping she’d just fade away

but spark!

she’s like the slow burn

like coal underground,

just sitting and waiting

for someone to kick up the dirt.

just enough to catch the wind

and be carried away.
