Two tea cups

Tea for two
Two tea cups
That we never used
When we were us
They’ve held pennies,
And tacks,
Safety pins and keys
But never once
Have the two held tea.
They’ve sat together,
Though mostly apart-
One on each side,
In the back, where it’s dark.
Now one is in the cupboard
And one on the stove
Never together
But useless alone
Two tea cups
Two should have tea
But it’s always been you
In the absence of we.
