Roadside rambling

I think it’s normal, when we change- which is to say, when we start revealing and becoming who we are- to want the people we love- especially our partner- to come with us. We want them to change too. We try to change them- and or, to make them want to change. We create their resistance by essentially saying, “how you are isn’t working” and even if that’s true for us- what they hear is, “you aren’t good enough” and there is NO truth in that. Yet, it’s a truth we must come to on our own, usually observed in the examples set by others- and then often interpreted as a shortcoming within ourselves.
It’s normal to want to bring someone into what makes US feel better. Into what leads us into ourselves. It’s normal to want the ones we love to be healthy, happy, and whole- but not as we deem it so. It’s normal because the alternative is to let go. To continue walking when our journey beckons the next step and theirs beckons rest, or a change of path…We don’t want to let go. It involves so, so much…

Thank you! I have been struggling with letting go of some other things, and this helps. My path is no one else’s…and I don’t have to travel anyone else’s path either. I am me…I will let this go….

It’s a hard lesson. And strange- how we feel alone, but then come together here!
