You get what you give- the conclusion

I went to the post office today to mail a card. An elderly man asked- do you need some stamps? I took them, thinking- no one uses these anymore, you have to lick them! But I thanked him anyways and said something about Pretty Princess loving stickers and walked away. I went to the counter and asked the clerk to mail my card, thinking that the stamps the man had given me would not be enough. I can’t explain my presumptuous attitude and doubt- but I learned a valuable lesson when I got home and laid the stamps on the table, noticing their value when used together- exactly what I needed and it had been given to me for free.

I had given this man nothing- and in retrospect, I can sense his knowing of my ignorance towards his gift- but he gave anyway and he knew somehow that I needed his gift more than anyone else in that building. I am forever grateful to him. Forever.
